It's my birthday! I am 42, which is the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything; and grown-up enough to buy whatever I want, for myself. (Often the best birthday gift is one's own, as every woman discovers sooner or later.)
So, what shall I get? The local mall has a Nordstrom and a Sephora, which covers most eventualities. I'm thinking of berry-coloured lipstick, calming smells that help one sleep, or sexy perfume. Or all three, of course. What do you love right now? Anything enjoyable and fun; not face-cream, which is a necessity, like toothpaste.
NARS Fast Ride (dark berry) was a purchase for my 42nd in July! Wearing it since.
MAC's new Asphalt Flower perfume is nice too (a little $20. roller).

Sounds like the three gifts you chose for yourself will be enjoyed by your husband just as much. A day at the spa is another nice gift.

Happy birthday! Love the blog. I just turned 32 and treated myself to Fresh's appleseed brightening exfoliant and rose sugar tinted balm. The line always feels so spa-like to me.

We do a thing at work where everybody in the department puts in £3 per birthday and each person gets a decent present (as there are 17 of us). For the past two years I've told my best work friend about three nice perfumes and she's used my present money to buy me one. I think perfume is a lovely birthday present - you use it every day, but it's not the kind of thing you just by for yourself, in my experience.

When I wear Chanel's Allure Sensuelle body lotion, I catch whiffs of myself throughout the day and I'm in love all over again! :-)

I love the idea of a new perfume, you could pickup a nice fall scent (there are so many nice ones to choose from, they are just coming out now)
